Inter Milan defeated Lazio 2-0 in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday, with an own goal from Adam Marusic and a strike from Lautaro Martinez giving the newly crowned Serie A champions the domestic double.
Inter started brightly at the Stadio Olimpico and were confident from their recent title win and a 3-0 victory over Lazio at the same venue on Sunday.
The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when Marusic misjudged a header from a corner and the ball ended up in his own net.
Inter retained control and almost extended their lead shortly afterwards, but Denzel Dumfries saw his close-range volley blocked as Lazio struggled to cope with the sustained pressure.
Lazio’s defensive problems continued ten minutes before half-time when Nuno Tavares lost the ball deep in his own half. Marcus Thuram capitalized and delivered a low cross for Martinez to tap in and double Inter’s lead.
Lazio threatened for a moment before halftime through Gustav Isaksen, whose low effort from a tight angle went wide, but lacked attacking power.
Inter continued to dictate after the break, although Lazio came close to pulling back just before the end when Tijjani Noslin’s effort from close range drifted past the far post.
Both sides created chances in the second half, but Inter remained firmly in control and played out the match comfortably, with late frustration turning into a brief scuffle.
The victory secured Inter’s 10th Coppa Italia title, and first since 2023, capping a dominant season for the Milan club.
