Chennaiyin FC remained under threat of relegation after losing 1-4 to NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League 2025-26 match at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Shillong on Sunday.
The loss left the former champions in 13th place with nine points from twelve games, six points ahead of Mohammedan SC.
Had the Clifford Miranda-coached side achieved a draw, the result would have confirmed Mohammedan’s fall to the second tier.
