Bengaluru FC recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win against Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, handing the hosts their first home defeat of the 2025-2026 Indian Super League on Saturday. Ryan Williams’ first-half strike proved decisive in a match where Jamshedpur dominated for large periods but failed to find a breakthrough.
The result moves Bengaluru FC to fourth place with 20 points from 12 matches, while Jamshedpur FC remains third with 21 points, level with East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Williams was named Player of the Match for his match-winning contribution.
Bengaluru started brightly, winning a series of early corners and testing Jamshedpur’s defence, where Sarthak Golui and Pratik Chaudhari remained steadfast under pressure. The visitor continued to search as Braian Sánchez and Sirojiddin Kuziev both tried their efforts from distance, but Albino Gomes did not hinder either.
Jamshedpur gradually grew into the match, with Madih Talal at the heart of its attacking play. The midfielder combined effectively with Nikola Stanković and Sanan Mohammed to create the Red Miners’ first real chance in the 15th minute when Raphael Messi Bouli’s long-range effort forced Gurpreet Singh Sandhu into action.
The match started in an end-to-end contest, with both sides showing intent but lacking precision in the final third. Jamshedpur thought they had taken the lead midway through the half when Pratik Chaudhari guided the ball home from a set piece, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.
However, Bengaluru made their dominance count in the 38th minute. A well-weighted long ball from Rahul Bheke found Lalremtluanga Fanai, who pushed the ball into Williams’ path. The midfielder fired a low shot through the legs of a crowded defender into the penalty area and into the bottom corner to give the Blues a 1-0 lead.
Jamshedpur responded before half-time, with Nikola Stojanović forcing a sharp save from Gurpreet, while Messi Bouli headed narrowly wide. Despite the late goal, the hosts went into halftime trailing by one goal.
In the second half, Jamshedpur took control and put more bodies forward in search of the equalizer. Talal and Stanković dictated play in midfield, while Sanan continued to threaten on the left. Messi Bouli came close early on, but Gurpreet made a name for himself by denying the striker in a one-on-one situation.
As the pressure mounted, Jamshedpur created several half-chances, with Stanković and later Vincy Barretto both narrowly missing from distance. Bengaluru, meanwhile, appeared to be hitting the counter, with Fanai testing Gomes from distance.
Owen Coyle introduced new legs in the final quarter as Jamshedpur intensified their attacking efforts. However, Bengaluru’s defensive unit, led by Bheke and Chinglensana Singh, maintained their shape well and executed the offside trap effectively.
Jamshedpur pressed relentlessly in the closing stages, with Stephen Eze and Messi Bouli both going close, but Gurpreet produced a series of composed interventions to maintain his side’s lead. Bouli had a golden opportunity late on, but the Bengaluru goalkeeper held firm to clear the danger.
Despite a final surge deep into stoppage time, Jamshedpur could not break through as Bengaluru held on for a crucial away win to hand Jamshedpur FC their first defeat at the Furnace.
