Mohammedan Sporting Club became the first ever team to be relegated from the Indian Super League.
The Black Panthers lost 0-4 against Mumbai City FC at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Calcutta on Friday.
The loss, Mohammedan’s ninth of the 2025–26 season, confirmed its drop to the Indian Football League (formerly I-League), India’s second tier of men’s club football.
The team is at the bottom step with three points from twelve games, which means that it will not be able to surpass Chennaiyin FC’s nine points from eleven games.
Mohammedan had won the 2023-2024 season of the I-League to secure promotion to ISL.
