Italian defender Bastoni is being investigated for alleged child prostitution

Inter Milan and Italy defender Alessandro Bastoni are under investigation for child prostitution.

It is part of a larger investigation by the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office into an alleged escort ring.

Bastoni was summoned to appear before prosecutors on Friday. He allegedly paid for sex with one of the girls, who was 17 at the time, in June 2020.

Because she was a minor at the time, paid sex would be child prostitution.

“My client is very shocked,” said Bastoni’s lawyer, Salvatore Scuto. “I can rule out that he has ever had paid sexual relationships, let alone with minors.”

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the girl has already been questioned and although she has admitted staying at Bastoni’s house, she denies having sex with the footballer.

It is the culmination of a few nightmares for 27-year-old Bastoni, who was sent off in Italy’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Azzurri then lost a penalty shootout and missed out on a third World Cup in a row.

Bastoni and his family were also abused on social media following an incident while playing for Inter on February 14 against rivals Juventus. Bastoni appeared to dive in a successful attempt to get an opponent off the field.
