Johnney Shofar – Fox AT Thru Hike – Day 56

Last night I shaved my leg around the knee so I could bandage it this morning. The tape does not stick to the hair on my legs. I hope that not taping immediately after shaving will reduce skin irritation. Anyway…the knee seems better this morning. No stiffness, no pain. I still recorded it as a precaution.

The trail confirmed my decision to stop yesterday. The climb was rocky and often steep. There was no way I was going to do that climb at the end of the day with a weak knee. Fortunately, my knee was fine today. After Three Ridges, the trail got smoother and I covered some easy miles.

There were so many hikers today! I enjoyed seeing so many people enjoying the outdoors. There is a loop you can do with the Mau-Har trail that draws crowds on Saturday. One man was leading a group of about eight new hikers and was actually talking about how to get to the top of three ridges. I hope it keeps morale high, it’s hard for new hikers.

At 4:30, I arrived at the Paul C Wolfe shelter. Technically, I could make it the five miles and be in town before eight. But I really don’t gain much from doing 27 miles today and I’m not sure I want to camp in the city park. The other seven hikers here provided good conversation.

Shout out to Johnney Shofar, angel of the path. The midday soda and cookies were great and I am grateful for the prayer.
