Jordan Pickford is on the verge of breaking the record for most appearances by an England player at the World Cup after being named in the starting line-up for Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway.
The Everton goalkeeper will make his 18th appearance at the quadrennial event since making his debut under Gareth Southgate in 2018.
The previous record was held by fellow custodian Peter Shilton, who was between the sticks during the 1982, 1986 and 1990 editions.
Captain Harry Kane is joint second in the list with seventeen appearances, ahead of John Stones, who has sixteen.
