Konate leaves Liverpool on a free transfer

Liverpool confirmed on Sunday that centre-back Ibrahima Konate will leave the club after failing to agree a new contract.

Although the France international said last month he was confident of agreeing a new contract, the club and player failed to reach a breakthrough in negotiations.

Konate joins Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson as the other key player to leave the club after a disappointing season.

Konate, 27, who joined the Reds in 2021, has won the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cup titles.

“Liverpool FC can confirm that Ibrahima Konate will leave the club after his contract expires this summer,” the club said in a statement.

“Konate will leave with our gratitude and appreciation for the contribution he has made and everyone at the club wishes him the best for the future.”

After a title-winning 2024/25 season, Konate’s form dipped drastically in the recently concluded campaign.

Konate has been linked with a move to European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
