Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) clinched a record-extending 14th French league title after a 2-0 win over nearest rivals Lens on Wednesday.
PSG needed just a draw to clinch their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 crown and are now nine points clear of Lens with one game remaining.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored in the 29th minute and Ibrahim Mbaye added the second goal in stoppage time after Lens missed several chances to score at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
The match was moved from April 11 by the French league to support defending champion PSG’s Champions League ambitions. PSG will take on Premier League leaders Arsenal in the Champions League final in Budapest on May 30.
Although the postponement was vigorously contested by Lens, coach Pierre Sage’s team had no say in the matter.
Lens also has a final to prepare for – against Nice in the French Cup on May 22 – and Sage left his two best attackers – wingers Florian Thauvin and Allan Saint-Maximin – on the bench until the hour mark against PSG.
PSG punished a Lens error when striker Ousmane Dembele intercepted a sloppy pass from defender Malang Sarr and fed Kvaratskhelia, who scored with a clinical finish.
PSG scored in stoppage time through Mbaye, the 18-year-old striker who whipped in Désiré Doué’s pass via the crossbar just after Lens had squandered another chance.
