U.S. midfielder Malik Tillman scored his second direct free kick of the 2026 FIFA World Cup during his side’s last-16 tie against Belgium on Monday.
Tillman’s goal came in the 31st minute of the match, when his shot from just outside the penalty area deflected off the wall, wrong-footed Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and found the net.
Only one other player has scored two direct free kicks in the same World Cup edition (since 1966): Frenchman Bernard Genghini, who did so in 1982.
