Mexico’s Julián Quiñones scores the opening goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup


Mexican Julián Quiñones scored the opening goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against South Africa at the Estadio Azteca on Thursday.

Quiñones, who plays his club football with Al Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League, scored in the ninth minute after a mistake at the back from South Africa.

Quiñones, 29, is the top scorer in the recently concluded Saudi Pro League.

The Colombian-born forward made his debut for the Mexican senior team in 2023 and has 23 caps to his name.
