Neymar leaves the pitch with his hands on his ears after the Brazilian star is booed during Santos vs Fluminense

Brazilian record scorer Neymar was heavily criticized by fans after his club Santos lost 2-3 to Fluminense in the Brazilian Serie A on Sunday.

«The day has come when I have to explain an ear scratch! People, honestly, you are going way too fast and crossing the line… It’s just too sad to have to put up with this,» Neymar wrote on social media.

“No man can bear it.”

The 34-year-old returned to his boyhood club last year and helped the club stay at the top with 11 goals and four assists. However, the club has struggled for consistency this season, recording just one win in their last five league matches.

The result could also influence Neymar’s selection for the 2026 World Cup. Brazilian coach Carlo Ancelotti has insisted the forward will remain in his plans provided he stays fit, and it remains to be seen whether he can actually make the final squad.

Neymar last played for Brazil almost three years ago, when he had to leave the field early with an injury during a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023.
