Neymar suffers a calf injury in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup

Brazilian side Santos have confirmed that star striker Neymar has suffered a calf injury, ruling him out of the team’s upcoming matches.

Rodrigo Zogaib, head of Santos’ medical team, confirmed that Neymar suffered edema that caused swelling in his right calf during a 3-0 home defeat to Coritiba on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Neymar was named in Brazil’s 26-man squad for the World Cup, marking his first selection during head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s reign.

Zogaib added that Neymar is expected to recover in time for Brazil’s pre-tournament camp.

“According to our planning, his progress will allow him to be fit next week when he will join the national team,” Zogaib said.

Before the World Cup, Brazil will play two international friendly matches: against Panama on June 1 and against Egypt on June 6.
