The sun woke me up today at 5 am. Using the motel’s coffee maker I heated water to make oatmeal and then made coffee. After those and two yogurts, I triple-checked all my gear before heading out. I have become very cautious about forgetting things.
Leaving the city wasn’t so bad. I resolved to just walk at whatever pace worked and not worry about distance time. Crossing into Vermont added a little excitement to the day. Only three states left! Vermont provided a change of scenery on the first day with numerous beaver ponds and swamps. Fortunately I didn’t find any of the famous mud.

As I emerged onto a logging road, I saw a hiker chatting and what looked like coolers, so of course I stopped. The bacon wrap was working magic on the trail and served me a great cheese omelette. As much as I live for pancakes, I have tortillas whenever I can for protein. I enjoy pancakes more, but I also know that my body needs protein.

Fortunately, the combination of a zero and knee pads has worked. Today’s walk was remarkably painless.
- Breakfast: 6 packages of oatmeal, 2 yogurts
- Dinner: Potatoes and cheese.
- Snacks: Fig Bar, Met Rx Bar, Cereal Bar x2, Nut Butters, Tuna with Pretzels, Nature Valley Protein Bar, Pop Tarts
- Bonus: three-egg omelette with cheese
- We meet today: Rando, dinner, bacon wrap (trail angel)
- Days without a ramen bomb: 97
- Today I am grateful for: Staying on the path
