Hello whoever is reading this! My name is Noah or trail tumbleweed (definitely not because of how many times I fall on the trail, by the way). Tomorrow, two of my closest friends and I will seek to reach the top of Katadhin to begin our journey to Sobo. This is something I’ve been thinking about for over ten years and it’s about to become a reality! We drove over 11 hours the last two days to get to Maine from Maryland and the wait is almost over. My initial bag weighs just over 35 pounds with food and water. It’s heavier than I wanted, but I need to carry a lot of food into the hundred mile desert so it will lighten over time. My backpack weapon of choice is the Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 55. I also choose a Durston X-mid for my tent. For my sleeping situation I have a Nemo Tensor pad and a Z-packs 30 degree down comforter. I went ultralight in gear so I could consume very heavy snacks! My cooking system works with the Soto Trek Fusion Backpacking Stove followed by a Toaks Ultralight Aluminum Skillet. Listed below are some other notable gear I bring that I really like!
– NOBO Igneous Bottles
– Sambob Alpha 120 Hoodie (cats love these things for some reason)
– Fizan trekking poles
– Hightail Designs 1L Drawstring Bag
-Helly Hansen Vargas Shell Waterproof Jacket
– 15 pounds of food!
These are just a few of my kits and if anyone wants to see my full lighter package I would be more than willing to share! Keep an eye out for my posts in the future!
Shout out also to the five cats at the Baxter Inn!
Dixie, Leo, Cosmo, Luna, Nova!
