Paraguayan midfielder Julio Enciso doubtful for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Paraguay have been dealt a blow ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with star midfielder Julio Enciso suffering an injury during a friendly against Nicaragua on Friday.

The Strasbourg player appeared to get injured around the 22nd minute and was carried off the pitch. He was replaced by Mauricio.

Paraguay has been placed in Group D alongside co-hosts USA, Australia and Turkiye. The La Albirroja open their campaign against the US on June 12.

Media reports suggest Enciso could be sidelined for two to three weeks, meaning the 22-year-old could be out for most of Paraguay’s group stage.

The Paraguayan federation has not yet issued an official statement on the extent of the injury.

Meanwhile, Paraguay recorded a 4-0 victory over Nicaragua, with Alexandro Maidana, Matías Galarza, Miguel Almirón and Alejandro Romero finding the back of the net.
