Party at Pen Mar Park (Day 82)

It was another great night’s rest in my tent. I still have to re-inflate my sleeping pad a few times, but it doesn’t bother me too much.

Snakes as friends

It was an easy day of hiking, and my friend and I set out to get to Pen Mar Park, 15 miles away, by 3 pm We were told they could get pizza delivered there, and that was our plan for dinner. I took very few breaks today so I could arrive on time. However, I did sit for a few minutes next to a stunning black rat snake I encountered along the way. He seemed very relaxed and didn’t slip or roll his neck. I would consider us fast friends.

Pen Mar Park

When we arrived at Pen Mar Park, I was surprised to find loud music and crowds. They seemed to be having a party. A little boy approached me almost immediately and asked if I was a hiker. When I said yes, he led me to a cart full of drinks and snacks which he said was magic on the trail.

Apparently the park hosts a music series during the summer, with a different band playing each Sunday. Today, an Elvis impersonator was on stage and a crowd of seniors were dancing in the pavilion. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, plus there was an ice cream truck. I’m on the edge of all the action, charging my phone and resting my legs.Party at Pen Mar Park (Day 82)

Unfortunately, when my friend and I tried to order the long-awaited pizza, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Every order we placed online was canceled immediately, which I assume was due to our location. We finally lucked out with an Asian restaurant and ended up having sushi in the park.

The Mason-Dixon Line!

We walked another mile to a campsite at Falls Creek, but not before crossing the Mason-Dixon line into Pennsylvania. I guess we’re officially in the North now.
