Resupply Failure – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – Day 103

Reviewing the AWOL guide this morning, I realized I had ruined my resupply plan. I had originally planned to go to the S. Pomfret post office tomorrow morning. However, they don’t open until noon and that would mean 17 miles after lunch. This didn’t seem feasible, so I came up with a series of backup plans.

  • Plan A: Boost replenishment today
  • Plan B: Call the PO and see if they will allow the store to hold my package.
  • Plan C: Restock tomorrow, try the 17th after lunch.
  • Plan D: Restock tomorrow, stop briefly and have a long day the next day.

So I started walking. The extra food and slower days had a positive impact. The miles were easier today than they have been in a long time. I passed and crossed stream after stream. Walking along the water is my favorite type of walk, so the day was fantastic. It soon became clear that he would reach S. Pomfret.

Things I didn’t expect

S. Pomfret was one of those places you don’t see in Farout, but it was cool. Teago’s general store was an eclectic mix of delicatessen and small grocery store. The post office was in the store, but when I walked in… it was closed. I looked at the time and it should have been open. The store staff said they hadn’t opened all day. After 15 minutes of worrying a post office employee showed up! Crisis averted.

The guy at the store chatted with me while I packed my bags. Then a couple took me back to the trailhead. S. Pomfret was just a nice little town, clearly not that used to day trippers, but friendly.

  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with dates, chia, almonds
  • Dinner: cous cous, green bean casserole.
  • Snacks: figbar x3, cereal bar x2, metrx bar, Nature Valley protein bar x2, pop tarts
  • Bonus: ice cream, protein shake
  • I met today: the friz
  • Days without a ramen bomb: 103
  • Today I am grateful for: That PO employee
