This morning I had to travel 16 miles to the post office to resupply. Fortunately the terrain was easy. I walked around several fields with views, including one with a nice outdoor chair. This section of the AT has many intersecting and overlapping trails. They are all well marked, so be careful of the llamas!
When I got to County Road 517, two younger guys were getting out. I asked if they were leaving and got my first problem! Their kindness saved me a 1.1 mile hike, which was amazing. The ladies at the Glenwood post office received my package immediately. They even offered to fill my water and let me use the bathroom. Being further from the trail, perhaps hikers are more of a novelty.

Having successfully recovered my resupply, I could afford to relax at my next stop: Heaven Hill Farm. With only five miles left and it being 3pm, I decided to take a one hour break. I ordered a coffee ice cream shake, as opposed to my usual pint. It hit the nail on the head. After an hour of rest, with devices charged and bottles filled, I was ready to call it a day.

Upon returning, I had to climb the Stairway to Heaven. It’s a climb, but by no means extraordinary for the AT. I missed the view at the top but only realized after passing through and backtracking is anathema. After the stairs there was a gentle path that led to the Refuge.
The Wawayanda shelter does not seem popular. Two hikers passed by there after six in the afternoon and continued on their way. I suspect this is a combination of lack of water and the ability to get a hitch close to the Warwick drive-in. However, it is a nice retreat and I don’t mind having it to myself.
