The draw for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup will take place in Saudi Arabia next month, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officials said on Wednesday, after it was postponed as war broke out in the Middle East.
The draw was due to take place in Riyadh on April 11, but the event was rescheduled “to ensure the full participation of all key stakeholders and participating associations,” the AFC said.
It will now take place on May 9 in the historic At-Turaif district in ad-Dir’iyah, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Kuala Lumpur-based federation said.
The 19th edition of the Asian Cup is scheduled to take place from January 7 to February 5 next year and 23 of the 24 participating countries have been confirmed.
The final venue will be determined, with a Group B tie between Lebanon and Yemen moved to June 4, the AFC said.
Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar are the host cities.
The 24 teams are divided into six groups of four
