The Best Hostel Experience (Day 39)

I almost didn’t want to leave our camp this morning. It was a lovely place to sleep and I keep thinking how much I would love to return one day.

It was resupply day and I was running out of food. A few of us booked a stay at Boots Off Hostel and Campground, which is right next to the trail at mile 429. But to get there, we first had to climb Pond Mountain. It was basically a 3 mile climb from camp, followed by a 3 mile descent back down. I talked to my husband on the phone throughout the climb, and the time passed quickly. I even managed to take a photo of a little field mouse while walking today. They are usually too quick to appear on camera.

We arrived at Boots Off before midday and it was lovely from the start. It was a warm, sunny day and their establishment was very homey. I took a shower and lay in the sun while they washed my clothes. Their shuttle took us into town for the night and I was able to resupply at another Redi Mart. When we returned, they had cooked a full spread. I couldn’t eat much, but there was a variety of fruits. I stuffed myself because I think my body is probably lacking fiber right now.

Better foot forward

I think it was wise to give my feet a day to rest. It surprises me that they seem to be my limiting factor. My arches and Achilles tendon are really the only body parts bothering me right now (knock on wood). I’m going to continue stretching every night and taking care of my body the best I can. Hopefully, it holds up.
