Trent’s Grocery is an iconic spot on the trail. I didn’t know if I wanted to take the time to walk a mile round trip to get there. I’m glad I did it! The food was excellent and reasonably priced. It’s great to get hot food made to order for lunch. After eating bacon burgers, fries, a chocolate shake, and a drink, I headed back to the trail. Hiker hunger is real! It’s a little embarrassing how much food I’m eating.
Route report
Today started out cold, but quickly got warm. I was moving at a fast pace because I wanted to get to the Woods Hole Hostel before dinner at 6 p.m.
First thing this morning, I passed the 600 mile mark! That was exciting. But at the same time, I’m not even a third of the way there.
I took the side trail to Dismal Falls, which was nice. I climbed Sugar Loaf and was rewarded with a wide view I hadn’t had in a long time.

I arrived at Woods Hole Hostel at 5 pm. In time to shower before dinner. Dinner was amazing! We had pumpkin lasagna, fresh salad from the garden, freshly baked bread and cake for dessert. When you can smell the bread freshly baked in the oven, you know the food will be so good!

Thought of the day
After losing the tent pegs, I ordered more from GGG. However, they hadn’t shipped yet and I was getting really stressed out. I even emailed them and they said they would ship but they couldn’t guarantee it would arrive at the hostel on time.
I tend to get stressed by situations I can’t control. The Bible has some things to say about this type of worry. Don’t stress over things you can’t control. Hiking had provided me with abundant opportunities to learn this lesson.
Worrying about something that is out of your control cannot change the situation. All it does is cause you unnecessary stress.
people i met
At the shelter I met Valerie and Jaws. They are both super kind and nice people. Neville, the owner, is in Damascus during tour days. So, Valerie and Jaws take care of everything until she returns.
Plant of the day
Today’s plant is the Rosa Multiflora. It is also known as baby rose. Originating from East Asia, this could be misidentified. I would appreciate anyone who can correct the AI in this case.

bird of the day
Today’s bird is the Blue-headed Vireo. A very colorful bird with a sweet slow song.
