US President Donald Trump has joined criticism of high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, saying he would not pay the four-figure sum listed for the United States’ opening match against Paraguay.
“I would certainly like to be there, but I wouldn’t pay for it either, to be honest,” Trump told the press New York Postwhen asked about the price of tickets for the June 11 game in Los Angeles.
The match has attracted attention because the official tickets still available for the match are offered starting at $1,120, with higher categories going well beyond that amount. FIFA’s use of dynamic pricing, common in the US entertainment market, has led to a sharp increase in the number of high-demand matches.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has defended the pricing model, arguing that cheaper tickets would only push fans towards higher retail prices. However, the cost has raised concerns about affordability, especially for local supporters hoping to see the host country begin its campaign.
The 2026 World Cup will be played from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
