Wales equalizes late and draws with World Cup-bound Ghana

World Cup-bound Ghana conceded an equalizer on Tuesday when they hosted Wales, who drew 1-1 in a friendly, extending their winless run to six games.

Lewis Koumas scored with a dazzling header three minutes into injury time as Ghana looked on course for a morale-boosting victory ahead of their departure for this month’s tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Substitute Caleb Yirenkyi pulled a rebound off the upright in the 66th minute and converted from close range to give Ghana the lead after a great run from the halfway line by Ernest Nuamah.

It was one of Ghana’s rare strikers in a match that Wales dominated but failed to capitalize on the opportunities.

The home side came closest in the first half when Dan James first had a point-blank header palmed away by Ghanaian goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi and hit the crossbar minutes later.

Ghana’s opening match in Group L at the World Cup is on June 17 in Toronto against Panama.
