Wet Feet – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – Day 47

It rained all night. Nothing dried out so I started the day with soaked feet. I also had problems with motivation. In the end I told myself, «You have to be present on the bad days too.» In fact, it helped me and kept me going.

Trillium?

About a third of the way through the day, the trail began to run parallel to a stream. Walking among rhododendrons with a babbling brook is exactly what I expected from this hike. Stopping at the Pine Swamp Branch Shelter, I had a great meal for lunch. The calories were necessary to power the climb to Bailey Gap.

After lunch the trail quickly became rockier. I had to slow down to take care of my balance. Bailey Gap had many warnings posted about bears, so I skipped my break and continued on. With eight miles to go, the road leveled out. I started pushing to get to War Spur before it got dark. However, it was worth a quick stop at Wind Rock for the incredible view.

I may never tire of these views.

Pushing the last stretch has brought me here with good daylight. I’m thankful I don’t have to find a hanging bear in the dark.
