Senegal played out a 2-2 draw against Belgium after regular time during the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Seattle on Wednesday.
The match headed to a penalty shootout as neither team could find a breakthrough in the extra 30 minutes.
The Lions of Teranga have never been involved in a penalty shootout at the World Cup. The country’s last penalty shootout came in 2025 at the African Nations Championship, where it defeated Sudan in the third-place play-off.
Over the course of its history, Senegal has had to survive a shootout eight times, winning four and losing four.
