Who will be the referee between Curaçao and Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg will officiate in Curaçao versus Germany during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This will be his second match in the tournament. He took part in the match between Ghana and Panama in the first round of the group stage.

Nyberg became a professional referee in 2008 and has been a referee in the Allsvenskan – Swedish top division since 2013. In 2016 he became a full international referee for FIFA.

Nyberg was the referee at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup Final between Uruguay and Italy in Argentina.

The Swedish referee has had his fair share of controversy during his refereeing career.

On 9 April 2024, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Bayern Munich and Arsenal, then Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel publicly criticized Nyberg for not awarding a penalty when Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes deliberately caught a ball with his hands during play.

The Swede also took part in the Olympic Games in Paris and was the fourth official in the 2023/24 Europa Conference League final between Olympiakos and Fiorentina.
