Who will Argentina face in the 32nd round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

Argentina qualified for the 2026 World Cup knockout in Group J in Dallas on Monday with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Austria.

Lionel Messi scored both goals in this match and broke the record for most goals in the FIFA World Cup by overtaking Germany’s Miroslav Klose.

But Argentina still has a long way to go in defending its crown. Because the tournament will be expanded to 48 teams this year, there will be an extra knockout round.

Lionel Scaloni’s team will most likely finish at the top of Group J. In that case, they will have to face the second-placed team from Group H.

As things stand, Uruguay occupies the second spot in Group H. But with Uruguay facing Spain in the final round, even Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia have a chance to qualify for the next round in second place.
