The US and Belgium meet on Monday in the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Seattle Stadium.
The United States hopes to take revenge on Belgium after the country suffered a 2-5 defeat in a previous friendly match in March in preparation for the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Belgium will be in good spirits, hoping to secure a place in the quarter-finals after a last-gasp win in the previous match against Senegal.
Who will be the referee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between USA and Belgium?
The match will be officiated by Adham Makhadmeh, a Jordanian referee who has been on the FIFA international list since 2013. The 39-year-old was born in Irbid, Jordan, and has featured in several AFC and FIFA competitions over the past decade.
At club level, Makhadmeh has taken charge of more than 55 AFC Champions League matches, including the 2017 final between Al Hilal and Urawa Red Diamonds.
The match between the US and Belgium will be Makhadmeh’s third match as a referee at the Senior World Cup. He had previously officiated the Group G match between Spain and Cape Verde and the thrilling quarter-final between England and DR Congo.
Over 174 career matches, he has issued 623 yellows and 14 reds, with an average of 3.6 yellows, suggesting he is not a referee who hesitates to reach for his pocket when necessary.
