Germany will end their knockouts drought on Monday with a Round of 32 match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Paraguay at Boston Stadium.
The four-time champions’ last knockout match at the World Cup was the final of the 2014 edition, in which they defeated Argentina 1-0. A win on Monday will take the country to the round of 16 and set up a possible clash with France.
Who will be the referee for the Germany-Paraguay 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match?
Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed is the referee for the knockout match in Boston and takes charge of his third match this World Cup. He led the German opener against Curaçao and then the Group K match between Portugal and Uzbekistan.
Jayed has been on the international FIFA list since 2019. He made his Moroccan top-flight debut in 2019 and has taken charge of matches in the Africa Cup of Nations, CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup and World Cup qualifiers. He also refereed the 2026 World Cup qualifying match between Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo, which the latter won on penalties.
Jayed is the first referee from his country to be chosen as the central referee at a FIFA World Cup in 24 years, since Mohamed Guezzaz took part in the tournament in 2002. His first match at the World Cup was between Germany and Curaçao.
