Canada and Switzerland hope to clinch their spots in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday when they face off at BC Place Vancouver.

Both teams have four points from their first two matches, with co-host Canada occupying top spot due to a better goal difference.

A draw could be enough for both teams to qualify, as the other two teams in the group – Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar – can earn a maximum of four points at the same time after their match.

The Switzerland-Canada FIFA World Cup Group B match will be officiated by Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti. He made his first ever FIFA World Cup appearance in the Group G match between Belgium and Egypt earlier this month.

He mainly works in the Brazilian top flight and made his debut on September 13, 2020. Recognizing his standards, he was elevated to the status of a FIFA referee in 2023.

He has officiated matches in the Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana and South American World Cup qualifiers. In addition, his expertise is deployed globally, having refereed matches in the UAE Pro League, the Saudi Pro League, the Under-20 World Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Having overseen 314 matches so far in his career, Abatti has handed out 1,457 yellow cards (including 17 second yellow cards) and 62 red cards.
