The Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature another high-profile match when two-time champions France face Sweden in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Sweden, who finished second in 1958, failed to qualify for Qatar 2022 and are looking for an inspiring run under coach Graham Potter, with the team reaching the quarter-finals in 2018.

Who will be the referee in France vs Canada in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32?

Dutch referee Danny Makkelie will officiate in France versus Canada in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He previously refereed the 2026 World Cup group match between the US and Paraguay, and the one between Morocco and Haiti.

Makkelie has been on the FIFA list since 2011. This will be the Dutchman’s second FIFA World Cup after officiating two group stage matches in the 2022 edition. He is mainly active in the Eredivisie and was also a referee in the UEFA Champions League in the 2025/26 season.

The 43-year-old has also refereed at the UEFA Euros in the 2021 and 2024 editions, as well as the 2021 and 2025 FIFA Club World Cups.
