Will there be extra time and penalties if Argentina vs. Egypt ends in a draw?

Egypt took an unlikely lead against Argentina and held it until the end of the first half in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 match in Atlanta on Tuesday.

The defending champions’ problems were compounded when Lionel Messi missed a penalty in the 21st minute, leaving Argentina searching for an equalizer for much of the match.

Mostafa Ziko then gave the Pharaohs a two-goal lead in the second half. But goals from Cristian Romero and Lionel Messi put the 2022 champions back on level terms.

What happens if Argentina vs Egypt ends in a draw after 90 minutes?

If the match between Argentina and Egypt remains tied after 90 minutes plus injury time, 30 minutes of extra time will be added, divided into two halves.

If the winner is not determined even after that, a penalty shootout will decide which team will advance to the quarter-finals.
