Will there be extra time and penalties if the FIFA World Cup match between Germany and Paraguay ends in a draw?

Paraguay stunned Germany when they scored the opening goal in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Boston on Monday. However, Kai Havertz restored parity after the break and headed Florian Wirtz’s cross into the net.

The question now remains: if the score remains the same at the end of regular playing time plus injury time, how will the winner be determined?

What happens if Germany vs. Paraguay ends in a draw after 90 minutes?

If the match remains tied after 90 minutes plus injury time, the match will start with 30 minutes of extra time, which will be divided into two halves.

If the winner is not determined even after that, a penalty shootout will decide which team will advance to the pre-quarter-finals.
