Crystal Palace slipped to a 2-1 defeat in Strasbourg in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday as Liam Rosenior’s side came from behind to maintain their unbeaten start to the competition.
Tyrick Mitchell sent Palace into the lead and Ismaila Sarr almost added a second when he hit the inside of the post, with Strasbourg goalkeeper Mike Penders well outside his area.
Emanuel Emegha equalized for the French club early in the second half when he tapped in Diego Moreira’s cross at the back post.
Adam Wharton hit the crossbar for Palace with a gaping goal as Penders was again caught badly out of position as Strasbourg lost the ball on the edge of their own penalty area.
Penders then produced a superb save to deny Yeremy Pino, and Strasbourg went down the other end to score when teenager Samir El Mourabet curled in the rebound after Julio Enciso’s free-kick deflected back off the post.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner said his team paid the price for not taking their chances.
«If you have an empty goal in front of you twice, and you miss the goal twice and hit the post, then you should be 3-1 up. Then we have the big chance against the goalkeeper, and then on the next play we are down 2-1,» Glasner said. TNT Sports.
«It has happened too often this season that we did not decide the game when we could.»
