Liverpool manager Arne Slot is supporting his team to recover from the heavy defeat against Aston Villa

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is not feeling any added pressure after his side’s 4-2 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa on Friday, which put their place in next season’s Champions League in jeopardy, but admits his side are conceding too many soft goals.

The defeat dropped Liverpool to fifth place in the table and could ultimately be surpassed by Bournemouth, which would ensure they miss out on the Champions League next season.

Slot’s position has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, although he said before the defeat to Villa on Thursday that he had plans for next season with the club’s owners.

“It’s not about me, it’s about us being disappointed with the result,” Slot told the newspaper. BBC. “I talked about it (his future) yesterday and that’s enough.

“Our focus is on the game against Brentford (next weekend) and making sure we earn the support of the fans by starting the game aggressively and well.

“The culmination of the fans’ support and a good performance will lead us to what we want to achieve and that is qualification for the Champions League.”

Villa scored four times on Friday but could have potentially added a few more as Liverpool’s defense fell apart. Slot admits that it is a major concern, and has been for some time.

«We have conceded a lot of goals this season, which is hard to believe if you don’t live it, and that is what we did today. Villa were the better team and the game got away from us.»

«It’s not about me or how frustrated I am. It’s frustrating for everyone involved, the players, the staff and certainly the fans. In football you can slip up (Dominik Szoboszlai for Villa’s second goal), but it’s such a shame. We know what we have to do next week.»
