Premier League 2025-26: No chance for Bruno Fernandes to play against Wolves, says Amorim

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is working hard on a quick comeback from a hamstring injury but will not be fit to play in Tuesday’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, manager Ruben ‌Amorim said.

Fernandes scored three goals and had two assists in two games before being forced off the pitch during United’s 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa on 21 December.

Sixth-placed United returned to victory against Newcastle United on Friday, and Amorim’s men will look to end the calendar year with another three points at home to Wolves, who have lost 12 games in a row in all competitions.

«He is the guy who watches the training even after the treatment. He goes there,» Amorim said of Fernandes.

«I don’t know if he wants my job or not, but he’s a leader. He can’t be that guy who, when he’s not playing, he doesn’t talk or speak. He always talks. That’s why he’s the captain.»

«Bruno already said that he has to train, but we don’t know. No chance that he will play against Wolves, no chance.»

United will also be without Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire due to injuries, while Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are absent from the Africa Cup of Nations.

“We’re going to be a better team because when all the players return, we won’t be playing with three defenders all the time,” Amorim said. The manager insisted Wolves, who are winless in the league, should not be taken lightly after leaders Arsenal were almost held to a draw this month before losing to an own goal in extra time.

«They showed against Arsenal that they can get at least one point. So in the Premier League you never know. They have their problems, we have our problems, but there are no excuses. We have to win and we will try to win the game,» he added.
