Serie A: Nkunku scores late equalizer as AC Milan steals a point from Fiorentina

AC Milan missed the chance to join Inter Milan at the top of Serie A after a late 1-1 draw with Fiorentina ahead of their clash with Scudetto rivals Napoli.

Christopher Nkunku scored Milan’s equalizer in the 90th minute at the Stadio Artemio Franchi to deny Fiorentina just a third win of a difficult season.

Fiorentina looked set for three points after Pietro Comuzzo headed home the opener in the 66th minute, but Nkunku’s late strike left the Tuscans on 14 points in 18th place.

Milan are at risk of falling five points off title pace later on Sunday as Inter look for a seventh straight league success against reigning champions Napoli.

Antonio Conte’s Napoli are two points behind Milan and will take second place with a win at San Siro.

Fiorentina is two points behind Genoa, which is just outside the relegation zone and hosts Cagliari on Monday evening.

Paolo Vanoli’s side appear to have turned a corner with one defeat in their last five games, and the fans are back onside after long periods of protest over poor results and a lack of direction.

Supporters applauded Fiorentina off the field after a second straight match in which they took the lead late on after a final penalty cost them a win over Lazio on Wednesday.
