Man United fans protest ‘inept ownership’ despite Man City and Arsenal winning

Even after back-to-back wins against the Premier League’s top two and new optimism flowing through Manchester United, fans are still planning to protest ahead of Sunday’s home match against Fulham.

A march to Old Trafford was organized ahead of morale-boosting wins against Manchester City and Arsenal, and organizers are not giving up, saying they are demonstrating against the 20-time English champions’ ‘dysfunctional, inept ownership’.

«Bring the heat. Bring the noise. Bring your love for the club,» fan group The 1958 posted on X this week.

The group has been an outspoken critic of United’s ownership, the American Glazer family and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe, the owner of petrochemical giant INEOS, took control of the football operations after buying an initial 25 percent stake for $1.3 billion in 2024, but performance has deteriorated following the sacking of two coaches and a worst-ever Premier League campaign last season.

The Glazers have been unpopular with fans since taking over the club in 2005. There were hopes that Ratcliffe – a boyhood United supporter – would bring back the good times, but his minority stake has so far been marked by high-profile hires and layoffs, ticket price increases and major cost cuts.

Former player Michael Carrick is the latest head coach, only until the end of the season, after Ruben Amorim was fired this month. Despite Carrick’s wins against City and Arsenal, fans’ anger over ownership remains.

The 1958 describes it as a “toxic collaboration where fans get the worst of both worlds.”

Still, the timing looks odd given United’s upturn in form under Carrick, who has risen to fourth in the standings and into the Champions League places. The match against Fulham is only the second time this season for United to record three league victories in a row.

However, the fans are determined to make their feelings known to the owners.

“We deserve better, and our traditions must be respected,” The 1958 said.

Bryan Mbeumo’s return from the Africa Cup of Nations has given United a boost, with a goal in each win against City and Arsenal. In other news, Patrick Dorgu will reportedly be out for 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.
