Former Iran coach Carlos Queiroz says goodbye to Oman

Former Iran coach Carlos Queiroz has parted ways with Oman after an unimpressive spell of eleven games, the Oman Football Association announced on Sunday.

Queiroz, who was previously assistant coach under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, had taken charge of Oman in July 2025 in what was his seventh assignment for the national team.

However, in eleven matches he could only manage three wins as the team exited the Arab Cup at the group stage and missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing in the Asian play-off last October.

His main international role remains as head coach of Iran, which he coached in the last three editions of the FIFA World Cup.

Oman, meanwhile, hired Moroccan Tarik Sektioui as Queiroz’s replacement. Sektioui led Morocco A to the Arab Cup title last year. However, the Omani FA has not disclosed the terms of his contract.

The team is now preparing for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
