Knocking New Hampshire – The Trek

During most of the time I have been along the way, the white mountains have been a continuous issue of fear and rumors. The hikers suspended continuously about how slow you had to go through the whites and how they could totally discard the rhythm of a hiker. Before getting to New Hampshire, I was victim of these rumors, but after walking in those mountains, my mind has changed.

Moosilauke and the relative

My trip through the white mountains began with Mount Moosilauke and the Kinsman mountains. I presented Moosilauke in the torrential rain and I had a very dangerous descent from the rear while crossing slippery rock slabs and incomplete steps. It disappointed me a little that my first experience on the upper line was completely covered with clouds.

On the positive side, after passing over Moosilauke, I stopped at the notice shelter to replenish and slackpack. After walking many of the previous sections alone, I was very excited to meet with so many friends in the shelter. When I arrived, I was full of family faces that I could finally see again.

The next day, Holguiné on the Kinsman mountains. Once again, the climbing and the fight was fun, but the summit was completely covered with clouds. Then, without a view from the top of my first four mountains of a thousand feet, it disappointed me a little what the whites really had.

Francia

After two days of clouds and bad weather, the day I left the notch was beautiful. Again, I met with tons of old friends as soon as I returned to the road. These friends quickly convinced me to shorten my plans to face whites (from a total of 6 days to 5) to get a better climate day on Mount Washington. It was inside and the climb began.

After tons and tons of climbing, we finally arrived in Francia Ridge. This was the first sections truly above the line I had seen along the way. It was a stretch of a few miles of totally exposed path. It was so beautiful to be able to look forward and see exactly where I would walk in just a few miles. And being able to see in any direction for thousands was simply incredible. In short, my mentality changed. The whites were incredible!

Get to the presidential

After Franconia did the day before, this day I had the purpose of taking me to the presidential range. While there were some excellent views about it, the emotion of what would come over.

At the end of this day, I was able to make a stay in the Mizpah cabin. Where I cleaned the tables and swept the floors in exchange for dinner’s leftovers and fall asleep on the floor of the cabin. Leftovers and a The floor to sleep had never seemed so well after the two long days of hiking that had done before (17 and 20 miles, respectively). And hanging out with Croo was a great moment, since they shared their work stories in the cabins.

The presidential ones

The presidential mountains are the cream of the white harvest, a route above the 12 mile line with surprising views. But when I started my tour, many of the opinions were taken by clouds. And the clouds continued to be thicker while climbing Mount Washington. I worried not having good views from the famous range. So I quickly took my photo with the famous sign and followed hiking.

As soon as one or two miles from Mount Washington descended, all the opinions suddenly returned. I looked back and saw that Just Washington was caught inside a thick cloud, and I saw that the rest of the day I was going to return to the endless views that I had received two days before. The walk for the rest of the presidential mountain range was absolutely impressive.

I had originally planned to stay in a tent site designated at the bottom of the presidential mountain range, but another hiker convinced me that there would be some scattered sites that are better later on the road. Unfortunately, those sites never appeared, and I ended up making a day of 22 miles with more than 7,000 feet ascending and descending (a massive day for whites). We also ended up appearing in the Cabaña of Notch Carter at 8 pm to ask for a work for stay just to have a safe place to sleep during the night (which fortunately gave us).

Finishing whites

My last day in the mountains was a section of 15 miles to get to Goram, NH. These miles passed through the Carter mountain range. That conveniently timed to go in a storm. While the storm was a scare, I survived and arrived at the hostel in Goram for a shower and felt much better later.

However, I could cross the white mountains much faster than I had anticipated (finishing everything New Hampshire in just 9 days). The views were also much better than I expected. He had never been as amazed by mountains before that, and I want to walk again as soon as I can!
