Mallory Swanson returns to USWNT for the first time since the 2024 Paris Olympics

The trio of Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson and Sophia Wilson, nicknamed «Triple Espresso» at the 2024 Olympics, was named to the U.S. training camp roster on Tuesday for a pair of away games against Brazil in June. The three have not played together since the gold medal match at the Paris Games.

Swanson was on the American roster for the first time since October 2024. She recently returned to her club team, the Chicago Stars, after taking time off for the birth of her daughter in November.

Swanson, 28, has scored 38 goals in 103 appearances with the national team, scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win over Brazil for the gold medal in Paris.

Wilson returned to the national team in April after taking maternity leave last year for the birth of her daughter. She scored 24 goals in 61 games for the United States.

«Those front three haven’t been together since the Olympic gold medal match; that’s a long time and we can’t waste a minute,» said U.S. coach Emma Hayes. «We absolutely need to bring together the very best players we can with every opportunity we have. But the circumstances are a little different. We have Mal, who is the last to return, and yes, she competes and contributes for Chicago, but like Soph Last Camp, it’s so important to get them in the environment to reconnect with their teammates.»

The United States will play Brazil on June 6 in Sao Paulo and on June 9 in Fortaleza.

Since the national team doesn’t play many friendlies outside the United States, the matches in Brazil give the younger players a chance to experience travel routines.

In addition, Brazil will host the Women’s World Cup next year. The United States will try to qualify for the tournament starting in late November during the CONCACAF W Championship.

«This is another moment where we see how we deal with all the environmental circumstances that come with visiting Brazil, whether it’s adapting to different cultures, different training facilities, different hotels, different experiences, fan experiences, or the feeling of being the away team but with the pressure cooker of a top opponent. All of these things really matter,» Hayes said.

Hayes named 26 players for the camp squad for the international window, with 23 players to be identified as available for each match.
