South Africa scored the equalizer against the Czech Republic in the Group A match in the 83rd minute on Thursday thanks to Teboho Mokoena’s penalty.
The 29-year-old played 58 games for the Bafana Bafana and scored nine goals. He also represented South Africa at Under-17, U-19 and U-23 levels. He also appeared at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with the U-23 squad.
He has been playing for South African side Mamelodi Sundowns since 2022 and has scored 19 goals in 179 international matches.
Mokoena started his football journey at SuperSport United’s youth academy in 2014/15. Two seasons later he was part of the senior team. During five seasons at United, he scored 17 goals and 20 assists in 167 games.
