Who is Alex Freeman, the US goalscorer against Australia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and son of the former Green Bay Packers star?

Defenseman Alex Freeman scored the US’s second goal against Australia in their 2026 FIFA World Cup match in Seattle on Friday.

He reached the rebound from an Australian defender after a shot from Sergino Dest on goal and headed the ball into the goal from close range. Alex had also assisted Gio Reyna’s goal in the US’s first match at the World Cup against Paraguay.

Alex is the son of former NFL wide receiver Antonio Freeman, who won the Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers and also played for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Alex plays as a right-back for Vilarreal in La Liga and has made just six appearances for the side since moving in January this year.

He previously played for Major League Soccer side Orlando City, scoring six goals in 42 appearances after coming through the club’s youth system.

Alex played 19 games for the United States and his goal on Thursday was only his third for his national team.
