Uruguay’s starting line-up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group H match against Cape Verde at Miami Stadium did not include attacking midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta.
The 32-year-old also did not play the team’s opening match against Saudi Arabia. The Flamengo star was capped 59 times by Uruguay, scoring 13 goals.
Arrascaeta suffered a broken collarbone suffered while playing for Brazil’s Serie A side in the Copa Libertadores match against Estudiantes in April.
To make matters worse, he also suffered a calf muscle injury in the run-up to the World Cup. Despite the problem, he remains with the team.
