Spain will be looking for its first victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, taking on Saudi Arabia in its second group match of the tournament in Atlanta on Sunday.
It was held to a goalless draw against World Cup debutant Cape Verde, as the European champions started the quadrennial competition on a calm note.
However, one player missing from Spain’s squad against Saudi Arabia is the fourth highest goalscorer, Alvaro Morata.

Alvaro Morata will not play in Spain vs Saudi Arabia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as he is not in the matchday squad, mainly due to his lack of goalscoring form.
The 33-year-old last featured for Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, playing 17 minutes against Turkey in September 2025. However, the last time he scored for Las Roja was in 2024, against Serbia in the UEFA Nations League.
In the Nations League final, he missed the decisive penalty against Portugal as the Cristiano Ronaldo-led team dethroned Spain.
