Norway will face England in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the match to be held at Miami Stadium on Saturday.
This is new territory for Norway. The best World Cup finish before this tournament was the Round of 16 in 1998. The match marks their first ever quarter-final appearance. England come into this match as their third consecutive World Cup quarter-final appearance. In 2018, goals from Maguire and Dele Alli were enough to get past Sweden, and in 2022 a single goal from Harry Kane was not enough to get past France.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup match between Norway and England will be officiated by French referee Clement Turpin.
Turpin is one of the tournament’s most experienced referees, having made his debut in the French third division in August 2006. The 44-year-old has been a FIFA list referee since 2010 and a UEFA Elite group referee since 2012. He regularly officiates Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League matches.
This will be Turpin’s third FIFA World Cup, taking charge of two group matches in the 2018 edition and three matches in the 2022 edition. This will be his fourth match of the current tournament, having taken charge of two group stage matches and one Round of 32 match.
Throughout his career, Turpin has been in charge of 675 matches, issuing 2,160 yellow cards (average 3.2 per match) and 178 red cards (average 0.26 per match). Remarkably, 131 of the 178 red cards he handed out were outright red cards rather than second yellow cards.
In a 2023 Champions League quarter-final between Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Turpin dismissed Thomas Tuchel.
“Unfortunately the referee was from class E,” Tuchel said after that match. «I would give him a 1 out of 10. He was absolutely terrible. It’s unbelievable at this level. He whistled for anything and everything. Everything was against us.»
