The roller coaster
In fact, I really enjoyed the path after SNP. It was well maintained and there were delicious shelters. It was still hot and wet, but the heat wave had passed.
However, the infamous Russian mountain approached us. This section of the path takes it, then returns, again, and again for approximately 12 miles. I’m not really sure why this is such a terrifying part of the path. The last 1000 miles had been in the same way.
Celebrating complete the roller coaster!
W.V.
We were extremely excited to cross West Virginia. Virginia contains the largest part of the path and we were ready to do so. Western Virginia contains the smallest part of AT.
Harpers ferry
After the roller coaster, there was only an easy path between us and Harpers Ferry in West Virginia. We push and enter the historical city as a group.

This was a big problem for me. I had visited the city last September and it was this visit that pointed to AT. There was something romantic in the idea of crossing the catwalk through the Potomac River after months on the path.
Of course, reality was different. First, going to Novo, we cross the bridge, leaving the Harpers ferry. The group was hot and tired and just wanted to reach the airbnb we rent. He saw us rain shortly after arriving. That is the AT for you.
Nostalgia
There is a path in Harpers Ferry that is not part of the AT. Maryland Heights’s path. It is a 6 -mile path that takes you to a look at the city. Mash joined me to walk along the path and recreate a photo I took when I visited last year.

Parting
Dandelion was with the group before me. Unfortunately, he had to leave the road in Harpers Ferry. He crossed Potomac with us, shared some farewell words, and then we saw how he walked back to the bridge. They miss him and the trip will not be the same without him.
Maryland
We entered Maryland after the catwalk on the Potomac River. Propaganda will tell you that Virginia is flat. These people must have made the challenge of 4 states and suppress their memories of Maryland.
I felt that Maryland was much flatter than Virginia.
We pass historical reference points.
As the original Washington monument.
There was also this giant portal that sends him back to the beginning of the path in Georgia.
We have been spoiled with opinions. Maryland’s cultivation lands did not impress some so much, but we still take the time to enjoy them.
Pennsylvania
We were crossing the border to Pennsylvania before we knew.
They warned us that the rocks in this state are horrible. Until now, we still have to experience these rocks.
Recently we enjoy a rock fight that finally led me to break one of my posts. I am the first of our group in which this happens. I was raining and we had to climb and slide on some rocks. I launched my posts to free my hands, then I slimmed for myself. In the middle of the way, I lost the traction and stepped on one of the posts that broke it.
I’m still using the post. It is just a couple of inches shorter than the other. I am seeing hikers for a replacement, but I am happy.
Midpoint
We arrived at the general store and wait for it to open. They were late because some electric lines were on the road.
They were without ice cream, so we ran a little from a local store. We sat on the porch and listened to music while we waited. I decided not to make the challenge because I didn’t want to feel miserable all day. In addition, I weighed almost 300 pounds when I left here and it seems nonsense to do something that I would not have done then.
My colleagues convinced me to participate.
We all managed to complete the challenge, although I am not sure that any of us are proud of that fact. Mash won ending in 20 minutes. I registered at 23:19. I went with a coffee spicks and a 48 oz mint chocolate sparks. After the challenge, I feel that the best advice I can give is to eat a pint of ice cream and enjoy it. We were all miserable when we finish and on the verge of vomiting.
The lawn was
We take a photo and receive the trophy spoon. A worker told us that Hershey’s has the monopoly in the area, and there was some controversy that we brought our own ice cream. We were not allowed to take our photo with the containers since they were not the Hershey brand.
I have fun that such a capricious challenge should be taken so seriously. He also had to imagine that Hershey sends an auditor to make a forensic analysis of the polaroids to determine the ice cream brand consumed. That or some ice cream Walter White looking at Ben and Jerry out of a supermarket, telling them to stay out of their territory. As we go, we are only living the dreams of childhood, you do not need to remind us how not the world is.
Taking advantage of the day
Lethargically headed to the nearby lake. My group felt that swimming under the hot sun would be a great activity after eating 64 oz of ice cream. It did not last long, since some clouds rolled quickly and began to rain.
Later we returned to the general store and ate some hamburgers and wraps. The food was excellent! Then we walk from the park and campaign little outside the prohibited camp area.
This was a day that seems almost unreal. We sat on a porch listening to music. He ate half ice cream gallon. I went to swim, rained, ate tasty food and went to sleep in the forest. All with abundant friends and laughs. On one day of the week. As adults. This day made me feel that this trip is the last summer break.
Duncannon, pa
We go to Duncannon. The night before camping in a view with the city and the surrounding area.
The next day, we descended to the city with intentions to replenish and move on. There is a strong vortex in this city. They attracted us and ended in Duting here.
My post broke completely upon reaching the city. I checked the hiker box in the outfitter and it seemed that everyone else also broke their posts. I managed for Frankenstein a replacement and I’m ready!
This city seems to hate air conditioning. The outfitter, Pizza Place and Sub Place were hot and lacked ac. I suspect that I turn both here and I do it on the way.
Experiences
Rest time
There was a heat wave during our time in the Shennies. It was hot enough to feel better relax during the most popular parts of the day.
We found that this is quite pleasant and we continue to take these breaks. Sometimes we will spend one or two hours in a view. Other times we will sit next to a river or stream and soak our feet.
This generally coincides with lunch we often try to dry while we rest.
