Walking through more land with fire scars today and getting a little closer to Lassen. He had been running to meet with friends in Lassen in a few days. A problem with spending months on the road is that it loses the notion of the date and day of the week. Today I realized that my friend had not come to Lassen until two days later. Previously, I felt that I almost had to commit suicide to get there, now I realized that I could take it a little easier.

Mt lasen in the distance

An advantage of this extra time was that he could camp on the crest on Bethden instead of walking towards the city. So I camped in a site that was described as an excellent vision but was also exposed. They were both.

I could see 3000 feet in the valley where the city of Bethden was. I could see through the valley towards Lassen.

But there were no living trees near me and insurance was really at the top of the crest. Someone had previously built a small rock wall to block part of the wind. It worked well until the wind changed direction at night.

Not only a tree, but two fell along the way

Yum! The tree seems to be eating this old PCT sign.
