After a website error caused some fans to book free FIFA World Cup tickets on May 21, the sport’s global governing body has now issued a seven-day ultimatum on payments. Failing this, the tickets mentioned will automatically be up for grabs again.
“FIFA can confirm that approximately 60 FIFA World Cup 2026 fans received a message on Wednesday, June 3 regarding tickets allocated free of charge (USD 0) due to a previous payment issue during the checkout process,” a statement from FIFA Media said.
«The tickets requested by these fans remain reserved and the affected fans have been invited to pay the correct amount. FIFA regrets the error and any inconvenience caused.»
In an email addressed to supporters “who have purchased a ticket affected by this price inaccuracy,” FIFA granted a one-week period within which they must repurchase the tickets at the “correct price.”
“If the purchase is not completed within this period, the reserved tickets will be deleted from your account,” the notification also said.
